Happy Monday!  Trick-or-treating on Thursday is just around the corner but before you send your kids out the door make sure you follow these tips for a safe Halloween.

  • If possible, make sure your costume is flame-resistant.
  • For more visibility use face paint instead of a mask.
  • Put reflective tape on costumes and Halloween bags.
  • Wear light colored clothing.
  • Avoid wearing costumes that are too long and make sure you bring a flash light.
  • If you have a sword, wand or other prop consider making it out of cardboard.
  • Plan the trick-or-treat route and make sure you know where your children are going.
  • An adult should accompany young children.
  • Visit only the homes that have a porch light on and only accept treats at the door
  • Never go inside a stranger’s home.
  • Stay on the sidewalks.  If no sidewalk is available, walk at the edge of the roadway, facing traffic. Look both ways before crossing the street.
  • Don’t cut across yards or between parked cars.
